Senior Network Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

On a daily basis, candidates will be monitoring the MSC "AFLOAT" network (ships in operation around the world). It is a 24x7 NOC and the "watch standers" will be monitoring network alarms that notify of any problems in the network. When they see a problem, they have a set of instructions on what to do and how to escalate if necessary to Network Engineering team to resolve. Maintains 24x7x365 Communications Guard Support for 80+ MSC Ships Worldwide with over 3000 users, processing general services messages via Defense Messaging System (DMS) and AUTODIN and ensuring quality control of all incoming and   outgoing naval message traffic.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides network administration support for Exchange Mail, Lotus Notes, DMDS, CCMail, and Citrix for Military Sealift Command ships

  • Assists with the monitoring of backups using Veritas Backup Exec. Provides real-time technical assistance to Military Sealift Command Ships 

  • Manages and operates Classified LAN using Citrix Metaframe

  • Provides desktop PC and server support for the Afloat Network Operations Center

  • Performs software installation of Log Rhythm, Host-Based Security System, Windows 2000/XP/2003/2008 Workstation/Server and Microsoft Office 2000/XP/2003/2007 products

  • Manages backups for three domains daily using Symantec Backup Exec

  • Ensures that backup media is logged and sent to off-site storage in a timely manner

  • Assists management in gathering data for weekly reports

  • Maintains Afloat Network Operations Center equipment inventory

  • Maintains and creates Network Documentation and Standard Operating Procedures

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Working 24/7 work environment, must be open to shift schedules, including weekends and/or holidays.

EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS:

  • The ideal candidate will currently hold a Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an IT Network/Analyst field.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Will be required to undergo and pass applicable background checks.
  • Must be a United States Citizen to support this government contract, possess and maintain a current SECRET level security clearance.

  • In accordance with DoD 8570.01 and DoDD 8140.01 “Cyberspace Workforce Management” ; Candidate must meet the Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II requirements  by having one of the following certifications: GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP,  CCNA-Sec, Cissp, Cisa, CASP, GCIH, GSEC, or GCED)
