Unfortunately, the hiring process at many companies feels like a black hole. You apply, wait for weeks, and never hear back—and you're left wondering why you even applied in the first place. The lack of communication reinforces self-doubt. Applying for a new role takes courage, and it's hard to muster that courage when—more often than not—your only reward is silence.

Our hiring process is different at MILVETS. We want you to know that when you apply for a role, we will review your resume and application, and you are going to hear back from us, even if we don't seem like a good fit. In fact, throughout the process we strive to make sure you never go more than seven days without hearing from us.

To be completely transparent, here's what happens when you apply for a position at MILVETS.

Applying:

When you apply for a role at MILVETS, the application goes into our application tracking software. Here, a hiring team of two to four people—people you will work closely with if you are hired for this role—will review your application.

Evaluation:

The application is then evaluated by our recruiting team based on evidence that demonstrates you have the relevant skills for the job. We also evaluate each applicant's writing and communication skills, along with their knowledge of MILVETS as a company. We realize that no candidate is flawless, so we look for candidates who excel in one or two skills, and then build teams around these people to supplement where teammates aren't as strong.

Job Fit Interview:

Once we have reviewed the initial batch of applicants, the top five to ten applicants will have a conversation about the role with the recruiting team. Here you'll be asked questions that dig into your relevant experience for this role, and you'll have a chance to evaluate whether or not MILVETS matches up with the values you want to have in an employer. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role.

Skills Interview:

After talking with the recruiting team, you'll go through a skills interview with the hiring manager. This is a practical evaluation to see if you have the relevant skills to succeed in the role. You won't be evaluated on skills that don't matter. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role. For some positions, we'll also evaluate relevant skills by administering a short exercise done outside of the interview.

Final Decision:

After the skills interview, we evaluate each candidate who made it to the skills interview, and the hiring team makes a decision. If multiple candidates meet our hiring bar, we'll select the best candidate and ask for references. If no candidates meet the hiring bar, we then solicit more candidates and repeat at step two.

Reference Checks:

During the reference check, we reach out to the references you provided to get a better idea of what it's like to work with you. Lastly, we promise that we will never reach out to your existing employer without your permission.

Offer:

Once references are complete, we'll make an offer to you including details about salary, benefits and other relevant compensation details. Hopefully you'll accept the offer and we can start working out a start date and onboarding plan.

At each point in this process, we promise not to go silent on you. We strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application.

Overview: MILVETS is currently seeking a motivated Cybersecurity Analyst to join our team in supporting mission-critical IT and cybersecurity operations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in cybersecurity metrics analysis, incident response, risk mitigation, and vulnerability management. This role requires an individual with expert knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, policies, and regulations applicable to DoD and Navy environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct cybersecurity analysis in support of mission-critical systems.
Perform system and network vulnerability assessments and risk mitigation analysis.
Develop and maintain contingency plans to ensure operational continuity.
Execute Security Test and Evaluation (ST&E) activities.
Manage firewall policies, ports, and protocols to ensure system security.
Oversee day-to-day Vulnerability Remediation Asset Management (VRAM) activities.
Enter and maintain system baseline configurations in VRAM, including uploading vulnerability scans.
Utilize cybersecurity applications such as ACAS, HBSS, MDE, MDI, and Splunk.
Maintain expert-level knowledge of institutional cybersecurity procedures, systems, and processes.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, DoD, and Navy cybersecurity laws, directives, and guidance.

Technical Expertise:

Strong understanding of CS/INFOSEC concepts and requirements.
Proficiency in risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and contingency planning.
Expertise in vulnerability scanning, remediation, and baseline configuration management.
Familiarity with cybersecurity tools and monitoring applications (e.g., ACAS, HBSS, MDE, MDI, Splunk).
In-depth knowledge of DoD and Navy cybersecurity policies, including FISMA, DoDD 8100.02, DoDI 8500.01, DoDI 8520, DoDI 8530, DoDI 8531, SECNAV 5239, OPNAV 5239 Series, NIST SP 800 series, and OPNAVINST N9210.3.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related discipline, or Level II Certification (Security+ or higher).
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in cybersecurity analysis and support.
Fully qualified in accordance with DoD 8570.01M.
Demonstrated expertise in mission-critical cybersecurity systems, policies, and processes.

Preferred Attributes:

Experience supporting Navy or DoD missions with classified or sensitive environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and documentation.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
