Unfortunately, the hiring process at many companies feels like a black hole. You apply, wait for weeks, and never hear back—and you're left wondering why you even applied in the first place. The lack of communication reinforces self-doubt. Applying for a new role takes courage, and it's hard to muster that courage when—more often than not—your only reward is silence.

Our hiring process is different at MILVETS. We want you to know that when you apply for a role, we will review your resume and application, and you are going to hear back from us, even if we don't seem like a good fit. In fact, throughout the process we strive to make sure you never go more than seven days without hearing from us.

To be completely transparent, here's what happens when you apply for a position at MILVETS.

Applying:

When you apply for a role at MILVETS, the application goes into our application tracking software. Here, a hiring team of two to four people—people you will work closely with if you are hired for this role—will review your application.

Evaluation:

The application is then evaluated by our recruiting team based on evidence that demonstrates you have the relevant skills for the job. We also evaluate each applicant's writing and communication skills, along with their knowledge of MILVETS as a company. We realize that no candidate is flawless, so we look for candidates who excel in one or two skills, and then build teams around these people to supplement where teammates aren't as strong.

Job Fit Interview:

Once we have reviewed the initial batch of applicants, the top five to ten applicants will have a conversation about the role with the recruiting team. Here you'll be asked questions that dig into your relevant experience for this role, and you'll have a chance to evaluate whether or not MILVETS matches up with the values you want to have in an employer. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role.

Skills Interview:

After talking with the recruiting team, you'll go through a skills interview with the hiring manager. This is a practical evaluation to see if you have the relevant skills to succeed in the role. You won't be evaluated on skills that don't matter. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role. For some positions, we'll also evaluate relevant skills by administering a short exercise done outside of the interview.

Final Decision:

After the skills interview, we evaluate each candidate who made it to the skills interview, and the hiring team makes a decision. If multiple candidates meet our hiring bar, we'll select the best candidate and ask for references. If no candidates meet the hiring bar, we then solicit more candidates and repeat at step two.

Reference Checks:

During the reference check, we reach out to the references you provided to get a better idea of what it's like to work with you. Lastly, we promise that we will never reach out to your existing employer without your permission.

Offer:

Once references are complete, we'll make an offer to you including details about salary, benefits and other relevant compensation details. Hopefully you'll accept the offer and we can start working out a start date and onboarding plan.

At each point in this process, we promise not to go silent on you. We strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application.

Position Overview: MILVETS is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Network Specialist to join our team supporting the Distributed Mission Operations Center (DMOC). The Network Specialist will assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust network communications systems that support DMOC events and exercises and ensure that the DMOC battlespace internal network remains in a persistent, ready state.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with the design and planning of network communication systems to support simulation and training events
Contribute to the development of detailed specifications and schematics for network architecture
Support hardware and software selection processes, focusing on efficient, scalable, and secure solutions
Conduct basic testing and validation of network designs under the guidance of senior engineers
Help maintain technical expertise in network and computing hardware/software interconnection, including routers, switches, firewalls, gateways, and other components
Monitor network health and help identify issues or performance bottlenecks
Stay up to date with emerging communications technologies and report findings to the team
Ensure the DMOC network infrastructure supports real-time training and mission readiness

Minimum Qualifications:

0–2 years of professional experience in IT or networking
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field
Active DoD Secret clearance; must be eligible for a Top-Secret clearance with SCI and SAP/SAR eligibility within one year
Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II or III certification IAW DoD 8570.01-M, such as CompTIA Security+ certification.
Basic understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnets, and routing
Experience with networking equipment (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls)

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with DoD network environments or military simulation systems
Understanding of cybersecurity concepts and how they apply to network design
Experience with or exposure to network diagramming tools and network monitoring platforms

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; an Active United States Department of Defense Secret clearance is required
