Unfortunately, the hiring process at many companies feels like a black hole. You apply, wait for weeks, and never hear back—and you're left wondering why you even applied in the first place. The lack of communication reinforces self-doubt. Applying for a new role takes courage, and it's hard to muster that courage when—more often than not—your only reward is silence.

Our hiring process is different at MILVETS. We want you to know that when you apply for a role, we will review your resume and application, and you are going to hear back from us, even if we don't seem like a good fit. In fact, throughout the process we strive to make sure you never go more than seven days without hearing from us.

To be completely transparent, here's what happens when you apply for a position at MILVETS.

Applying:

When you apply for a role at MILVETS, the application goes into our application tracking software. Here, a hiring team of two to four people—people you will work closely with if you are hired for this role—will review your application.

Evaluation:

The application is then evaluated by our recruiting team based on evidence that demonstrates you have the relevant skills for the job. We also evaluate each applicant's writing and communication skills, along with their knowledge of MILVETS as a company. We realize that no candidate is flawless, so we look for candidates who excel in one or two skills, and then build teams around these people to supplement where teammates aren't as strong.

Job Fit Interview:

Once we have reviewed the initial batch of applicants, the top five to ten applicants will have a conversation about the role with the recruiting team. Here you'll be asked questions that dig into your relevant experience for this role, and you'll have a chance to evaluate whether or not MILVETS matches up with the values you want to have in an employer. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role.

Skills Interview:

After talking with the recruiting team, you'll go through a skills interview with the hiring manager. This is a practical evaluation to see if you have the relevant skills to succeed in the role. You won't be evaluated on skills that don't matter. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role. For some positions, we'll also evaluate relevant skills by administering a short exercise done outside of the interview.

Final Decision:

After the skills interview, we evaluate each candidate who made it to the skills interview, and the hiring team makes a decision. If multiple candidates meet our hiring bar, we'll select the best candidate and ask for references. If no candidates meet the hiring bar, we then solicit more candidates and repeat at step two.

Reference Checks:

During the reference check, we reach out to the references you provided to get a better idea of what it's like to work with you. Lastly, we promise that we will never reach out to your existing employer without your permission.

Offer:

Once references are complete, we'll make an offer to you including details about salary, benefits and other relevant compensation details. Hopefully you'll accept the offer and we can start working out a start date and onboarding plan.

At each point in this process, we promise not to go silent on you. We strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application.

Salary: $47.08 to $54.08 depending on experience and training

General Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial or institutional electrical construction, with at least 2 years on federal or healthcare facility projects. Familiarity with VA Master Specifications, NFPA 70 (NEC), and federal safety protocols is essential.

Functional Responsibility:

Perform skilled electrical work on a federal construction site, including installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical and Telecommunications systems in accordance with VA specifications and federal standards. Responsibilities include:

Installing EMT, RMC, and PVC conduit systems across multiple floors and fire-rated assemblies
Supporting low-voltage systems (fire alarm, nurse call, access control) in coordination with specialty trades
Installing cable tray, conduit, and support systems for low-voltage telecommunications equipment
Reading and interpreting telecom plans, electrical one-lines, riser diagrams, and VA construction drawings
Ensuring all work complies with NEC, VA design guides, and infection control risk assessment (ICRA) protocols
Participating in daily safety briefings and maintaining clean, hazard-free work zones
Documenting as-built conditions and redlining drawings for turnover packages
Supporting commissioning, testing, and final inspection walkthroughs with VA CORs and QA/QC teams

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Qualifications:

Journeyman Level Electrician certification desired
Demonstrated experience on VA, DoD, or other federal healthcare projects
Proficient in conduit bending, wire pulling, panel terminations, and equipment grounding
Familiar with seismic anchoring, bonding, and bracing of electrical systems
Skilled in QA/QC documentation, punch list resolution, and redline markups
Able to work in occupied healthcare environments with sensitivity to patient safety and infection control
Understanding of VA Master Construction Specifications and ANSI/TIA-606-C labeling standards
Experience with multi-trade coordination and adherence to federal construction sequencing and phasing plans

Required:

OSHA 30 Certification (Construction Industry)
Current TB test results (IGRA)
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Ability to pass federal background screening for site access
Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash PPE, and NFPA 70E safety practices

Desired Certifications:

CPR/First Aid
NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training
Manufacturer training on lighting control systems, switchgear, or backup power systems
USACE EM 385-1-1 Safety Training (preferred for federal sites)
Scissor Lift certification
