Unfortunately, the hiring process at many companies feels like a black hole. You apply, wait for weeks, and never hear back—and you're left wondering why you even applied in the first place. The lack of communication reinforces self-doubt. Applying for a new role takes courage, and it's hard to muster that courage when—more often than not—your only reward is silence.

Our hiring process is different at MILVETS. We want you to know that when you apply for a role, we will review your resume and application, and you are going to hear back from us, even if we don't seem like a good fit. In fact, throughout the process we strive to make sure you never go more than seven days without hearing from us.

To be completely transparent, here's what happens when you apply for a position at MILVETS.

Applying:

When you apply for a role at MILVETS, the application goes into our application tracking software. Here, a hiring team of two to four people—people you will work closely with if you are hired for this role—will review your application.

Evaluation:

The application is then evaluated by our recruiting team based on evidence that demonstrates you have the relevant skills for the job. We also evaluate each applicant's writing and communication skills, along with their knowledge of MILVETS as a company. We realize that no candidate is flawless, so we look for candidates who excel in one or two skills, and then build teams around these people to supplement where teammates aren't as strong.

Job Fit Interview:

Once we have reviewed the initial batch of applicants, the top five to ten applicants will have a conversation about the role with the recruiting team. Here you'll be asked questions that dig into your relevant experience for this role, and you'll have a chance to evaluate whether or not MILVETS matches up with the values you want to have in an employer. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role.

Skills Interview:

After talking with the recruiting team, you'll go through a skills interview with the hiring manager. This is a practical evaluation to see if you have the relevant skills to succeed in the role. You won't be evaluated on skills that don't matter. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role. For some positions, we'll also evaluate relevant skills by administering a short exercise done outside of the interview.

Final Decision:

After the skills interview, we evaluate each candidate who made it to the skills interview, and the hiring team makes a decision. If multiple candidates meet our hiring bar, we'll select the best candidate and ask for references. If no candidates meet the hiring bar, we then solicit more candidates and repeat at step two.

Reference Checks:

During the reference check, we reach out to the references you provided to get a better idea of what it's like to work with you. Lastly, we promise that we will never reach out to your existing employer without your permission.

Offer:

Once references are complete, we'll make an offer to you including details about salary, benefits and other relevant compensation details. Hopefully you'll accept the offer and we can start working out a start date and onboarding plan.

At each point in this process, we promise not to go silent on you. We strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application.

Overview: MILVETS is currently seeking a full-time, experienced, NetApp Administrator with 10–15 years' experience to provide storage engineering and administration support for Naval Shipyard IT systems in a mission-critical defense environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in NetApp ONTAP storage systems, a strong understanding of SAN/NAS architectures, and hands-on experience supporting highly secure Department of Defense (DoD) environments.

Key Responsibilities

Administer and maintain NetApp ONTAP storage systems to ensure secure, efficient, and reliable operations in mission-critical environments.
Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot NetApp clusters, CIFS/NFS shares, SnapMirror/SnapVault replication, and storage provisioning.
Perform lifecycle management, including firmware/patch upgrades, capacity planning, and performance tuning of storage systems.
Develop, maintain, and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), backup/disaster recovery strategies, and configuration baselines.
Ensure compliance with DoD STIGs, DISA SRGs, RMF/NIST 800-53, and other federal security standards for storage environments.
Apply and maintain encryption, access controls, and secure multi-tenancy in classified IT environments.
Collaborate with system administrators, cybersecurity, and network engineering teams to support seamless system integration.
Automate repetitive storage administration tasks using PowerShell, Python, or NetApp ONTAP CLI.
Maintain detailed documentation for change management, incident resolution, and security audits.
Provide mentorship, training, and knowledge transfer to junior administrators or IT support staff.

Technical Expertise

Proven experience administering NetApp ONTAP storage systems in large-scale, mission-critical DoD or enterprise environments.
Proficiency with CIFS/NFS shares, SnapMirror, SnapVault, SAN/NAS, and storage provisioning.
Strong knowledge of iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and storage networking protocols.
Integration of NetApp systems with VMware, Hyper-V, and enterprise backup solutions.
Hands-on expertise in performance tuning, monitoring tools, and lifecycle management of storage infrastructure.
Experience with automation using PowerShell, Python, and/or ONTAP CLI.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on NetApp administration in enterprise or defense environments.
Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity standards, including STIGs, SRGs, RMF/NIST 800-53, and FedRAMP.
Experience applying and maintaining firmware, security patches, and audit compliance requirements for storage systems.
Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CASP+).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues in time-sensitive situations.
Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical teams.

Preferred Attributes

Prior support of Naval Shipyard IT systems or U.S. Navy networks (NMCI, ONE-Net, RDT&E, or equivalent DoD programs).
Familiarity with DoD/Navy ticketing systems (Remedy, ServiceNow, or equivalent).
NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) or higher certification.
Active DoD Secret or Top-Secret security clearance (SCI/SAP highly desired).
Demonstrated ability to thrive in 24/7 operational environments with minimal downtime.
Proven record of mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and cross-team collaboration.
