Unfortunately, the hiring process at many companies feels like a black hole. You apply, wait for weeks, and never hear back—and you're left wondering why you even applied in the first place. The lack of communication reinforces self-doubt. Applying for a new role takes courage, and it's hard to muster that courage when—more often than not—your only reward is silence.

Our hiring process is different at MILVETS. We want you to know that when you apply for a role, we will review your resume and application, and you are going to hear back from us, even if we don't seem like a good fit. In fact, throughout the process we strive to make sure you never go more than seven days without hearing from us.

To be completely transparent, here's what happens when you apply for a position at MILVETS.

Applying:

When you apply for a role at MILVETS, the application goes into our application tracking software. Here, a hiring team of two to four people—people you will work closely with if you are hired for this role—will review your application.

Evaluation:

The application is then evaluated by our recruiting team based on evidence that demonstrates you have the relevant skills for the job. We also evaluate each applicant's writing and communication skills, along with their knowledge of MILVETS as a company. We realize that no candidate is flawless, so we look for candidates who excel in one or two skills, and then build teams around these people to supplement where teammates aren't as strong.

Job Fit Interview:

Once we have reviewed the initial batch of applicants, the top five to ten applicants will have a conversation about the role with the recruiting team. Here you'll be asked questions that dig into your relevant experience for this role, and you'll have a chance to evaluate whether or not MILVETS matches up with the values you want to have in an employer. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role.

Skills Interview:

After talking with the recruiting team, you'll go through a skills interview with the hiring manager. This is a practical evaluation to see if you have the relevant skills to succeed in the role. You won't be evaluated on skills that don't matter. If you don't make it to this step, you'll hear back from us letting you know we're passing over your application for this role. For some positions, we'll also evaluate relevant skills by administering a short exercise done outside of the interview.

Final Decision:

After the skills interview, we evaluate each candidate who made it to the skills interview, and the hiring team makes a decision. If multiple candidates meet our hiring bar, we'll select the best candidate and ask for references. If no candidates meet the hiring bar, we then solicit more candidates and repeat at step two.

Reference Checks:

During the reference check, we reach out to the references you provided to get a better idea of what it's like to work with you. Lastly, we promise that we will never reach out to your existing employer without your permission.

Offer:

Once references are complete, we'll make an offer to you including details about salary, benefits and other relevant compensation details. Hopefully you'll accept the offer and we can start working out a start date and onboarding plan.

At each point in this process, we promise not to go silent on you. We strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application.

Clearance Required: Position requires an active DoD Secret Clearance (or higher)

Certifications Required: Active CompTIA Security+ CE (or higher DoD 8570 certification). Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) with Enterprise Core or Data Center specialty.

Overview: MILVETS is currently seeking a full-time, experienced, Network Engineer – Data Center with 10–15 years of hands-on experience in enterprise Cisco networks and data center environments. The ideal candidate will bring technical depth in network design, configuration, troubleshooting, and security implementation while working collaboratively with DoD teams and enterprise IT administrators. This role requires a strong understanding of Cisco data center solutions, enterprise routing/switching, and compliance with DISA STIG requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, configure, and install enterprise network devices within a data center environment (Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, UCS, ACI, etc.).
Support and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and security appliances.
Implement, monitor, and enforce DISA STIG compliance across network components.
Evaluate and respond to network incidents, performing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Support change management processes and contribute to project deliverables.
Collaborate with Windows, Unix, and other server administrators to integrate, troubleshoot, and optimize data center operations.
Utilize SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk) and monitoring platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, Cisco Catalyst Center/DNA) to identify and resolve issues.
Design, plan, and implement enterprise LAN/WAN networks, including SDN solutions such as SD-Access and SD-WAN.
Provide documentation, reporting, and recommendations for network improvements.
Partner with DoD teams to ensure alignment with project objectives and security requirements.

Technical Expertise:

Cisco Nexus 7000/9000 and Catalyst series switches.
Cisco routers (4551, 8500 series).
Advanced routing protocols: EIGRP, OSPF.
Cisco data center solutions: Nexus, UCS, ACI, Fibre Channel.
Network security policies, implementation, and monitoring with SIEM tools.
Data center integration: compute, storage, and automation.
Software tools: SolarWinds, Cisco ISE, Cisco Catalyst Center (DNA), Splunk.
Implementation of DISA STIGs to ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:

10–15 years of experience in Cisco enterprise networking and data center environments.
Active Security+ CE (or higher DoD 8570 certification).
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) with Enterprise Core or Data Center specialty.
Experience implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise networks in DoD or similar regulated environments.
Strong communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.

Preferred Attributes:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience supporting DoD project teams and objectives.
Ability to manage complex troubleshooting efforts and provide detailed root cause analysis.
Collaborative approach, with proven ability to work across multidisciplinary IT and security teams.
Familiarity with SD-Access and SD-WAN solutions.
