Looking to advance your cybersecurity skills? MILVETS is seeking driven college students and working professionals to participate in our Cyber Incubator program at UMBC for the Summer 2018 semester. Our program consists of training classes and seminars designed to prepare professionals so that are ready-to-work in the both the federal public sector and private industry. Classes are focused around obtaining baseline certifications that are required by the federal government, and highly valued by private industry. Interns will have the opportunity to gain long-term employment depending on aptitude and availability.


  • Take online knowledge and skills training courses for one of the following certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+, CISSP, CEH
  • Work in virtual practice-labs to apply knowledge and build critical skills as needed
  • Attend cybersecurity seminars and take notes as required 1 day per week.
  • Commit to 15 self-study hours per week
  • Memorize the acronyms detailed in the study guide for your particular certification
  • Maintain 2.7 GPA (80% or better) average for tests, quizzes, and and other assignments
  • Perform research on topics regarding cybersecurity practice and industry
  • Attend field trips as required

Strongly desired:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student, or is a working professional
  • Pursuing or in possession of a technical degree, preferably in cybersecurity or related field
  • Experience working in a collaborative/team environment
  • Experience with different IT Productivity tools, to include the Microsoft Office Suite
  • If currently enrolled student, overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Ability to maintain a rapport with, mentors, support staff, and administration as needed to carry out responsibilities in a professional manner
