Position Overview: MILVETS is seeking a highly skilled Cyber Security Engineer with mid to senior-level experience to join our mission-driven cybersecurity team supporting Department of Defense (DoD) systems. This position plays a critical role in identifying vulnerabilities, strengthening security posture, supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes, and ensuring systems comply with DoD cybersecurity policies and standards.  This role requires strong technical, analytical, and documentation skills to support system accreditation efforts, vulnerability assessments, policy enforcement, and incident response within highly secure environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor networks and systems for security breaches and respond to security incidents
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and compliance audits across systems and enclaves
  • Perform security assessments using both passive and active evaluation methods to identify deviations from acceptable configurations, enclave policies, and security standards
  • Develop, enforce, and maintain cybersecurity policies and procedures in accordance with DoD guidelines (e.g., NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-37, NISPOM, DCID 6-3)
  • Support RMF Certification & Accreditation activities, including:
    • Security Test & Evaluation (ST&E) preparation and execution
    • Security Plan development and maintenance
    • Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M) tracking and updates
  • Conduct threat analysis, risk assessments, and research emerging technologies for potential vulnerabilities and improvements
  • Assist with incident response, investigation, and corrective actions tracking
  • Educate and guide users on security best practices and compliance expectations
  • Maintain compliance with DoD 8570.01-M, including required certifications and continuing education

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, particularly within DoD environments
  • 3–5 years of demonstrated experience:
    • Performing system/network assessments to identify security risks and configuration deviations in accordance with NIST SP 800-53 and RMF processes
    • Assessing security controls across technical, operational, and management domains in alignment with NIST SP 800-37
  • 2+ years developing and maintaining Information Assurance (IA) documentation
  • 2+ years of technology research and risk analysis to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigations
  • Experience supporting system accreditation and security compliance activities
  • Strong understanding of government cybersecurity policies and risk-based frameworks

Certification & Clearance Requirements:

  • Must possess a DoD Secret clearance with the ability to get TS within a year
  • Must have an Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, GSEC) at time of hire
  • Must maintain certification and continuing education per DoD 8570.01-M requirements throughout employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supporting DoD cybersecurity efforts for simulation or training environments
  • Familiarity with STIGsRMF toolsets, and security automation platforms
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for IA artifacts, POA&Ms, and security plans
  • Experience supporting secure software or hardware development cycles
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-security, mission-focused environments

Clearance:

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; an Active United States Department of Defense Secret clearance with the ability to get TS within a year is required
